Movie/book/travel/bar ratings will come back to Semantic Drift after my exams. Law school gets really hard at the end of the semester and the last month-and-half has really kicked my ass. Friday night fights requires very little effort, just a quick scan, so it's been easy to keep up.

Did you notice that Iorek the polar bear was voiced by Ian McKellen (Magneto) and the evil King Bear was voiced by Ian McShane (Swearengen from Deadwood)? I kept wanting him to say "Cocksucker."
It really was like they just chopped off a big chunk of the book. It also ends on a cliff-hanger, but it's much more satisfying.

The R rating is a pretty good rule, although I think you'd have to be willing to violate it occasionally. As for "Hitman" see my rule about video game movies.

I though Beowul was amazing. The Imax3d just blew my mind. I don't think I would have liked it quite as much without the spectacle but that dragon fight at the end was ridiculously cool.

Speaking as one who barely even knew this was a book, I really enjoyed this move while confidently expecting to hate it. My girl made me see it instead of Hitman and since I too now have a gay rule (only seeing R rated movies), it took a lot of convincing. The entire movie was very interesting and it might even propel me to buy the audio book. The ending however was complete SHIT. Very Pirate of the Caribbeanish. The Icebear fight made up for it though. Anyways, great review, I’m looking forward to more bar/movie/tv show/even book reviews and less Friday night fights (not my thing). And what ever happened to travel stories?

PS - I did break the R rating rule last week as well when I saw Beowulf 3D IMAX witch quite possibly is one of y new favorite movie. It would have been way better with an R rating! I cant wait for the DVD version in Old English.
